The Department of Veterans’ Affairs has released new dental and allied health software vendor files effective from 1 July 2026.
These vendor files are used by dental practice software providers to update DVA item information and fees within their systems. They are available in both XML and Excel formats on the DVA website.
Is There a New Dental Fee Schedule?
At the time of writing, DVA continues to list the Dentists and Dental Specialists Fee Schedule effective 1 January 2026 as the current published dental schedule.
The July release is a software vendor file update. Practices should not assume that every DVA dental fee has increased or manually alter fees without checking the official DVA information or receiving confirmation from their software provider.
What Dental Practices Should Do
Contact your practice management software provider and ask:
-
Has the DVA vendor file effective 1 July 2026 been installed?
-
Were any dental item fees, descriptions or claiming rules changed?
-
Is an additional software update required?
-
From what date should any updated fees be applied?
-
Will previously submitted claims be affected?
Practices should also:
-
check several commonly used DVA item fees in the software;
-
confirm that the correct effective date is recorded;
-
review any item restrictions or prior approval requirements;
-
avoid overriding fees until the update has been confirmed; and
-
keep the software provider’s update notice for reference.
DVA advises that its fee schedules identify items requiring prior financial authorisation, along with any limits or restrictions. Approval must be obtained before commencing treatment where required.
Key Message
This is primarily a software and fee-data update, rather than confirmation of an entirely new published dental schedule.
The immediate priority is to check that your practice software has received the July vendor file and that DVA claims are being submitted using the correct item information and fees.
Disclaimer: This information is provided for general educational purposes only and does not constitute DVA claiming, financial or legal advice. Practices should confirm current fees, item restrictions and approval requirements directly with DVA and their practice software provider before submitting claims.
